    BBSC August Statewide Call: Columbia

    This month is different!

We're participating in Pack the Park with the Columbia Fireflies and it overlaps with our monthly meeting. That means you have two great ways to join us. First, you can join us at the game! $5 from every ticket sold through this link will go to Better Ballot SC. We're sitting in section 112 starting in rows C & D. We'll meet at the park at 6:30pm and meet with the rest of the state for 30 minutes before the game starts. Then it's baseball time! If you're planning to attend the game, please RSVP below so we know who you are and can expect you.

    OR

If baseball isn't your thing or you want to experience the entire meeting, you can join virtually with people across the state. RSVP for the virtual event and join via Zoom.

Are you interested in becoming a part of the voting reform effort in South Carolina? Let's expand instant runoff voting (also known as ranked choice voting) in South Carolina and give voters More Choice and More Voice.

We've been working to educate voters about this common sense upgrade to the way that we currently vote. Join us to Better the South Carolina Ballot by RSVPing for our monthly statewide strategy meeting.

Curious how it works? It's as easy as 1, 2, 3! Join the call and we can go more in depth, but here are the basics:

When voters go to the polls, instead of voting for one, they rank their candidates. This gives voters More Voice and More Choice. If a voter's top choice has no path to victory, their vote is transferred to their second choice. This ensures majority support while eliminating costly runoffs. It also has some other great benefits:

    • Reduces polarization and mudslinging
    • Eliminates the spoiler effect and vote splitting
    • Increases representation

Visit our Why IRV? page to learn more. Or come to the meeting!

Better Ballot SC is a nonpartisan grassroots movement comprised of a diverse group of South Carolinians who are uniting under a common cause: to make elections more fair with instant runoff voting.

For this Special Virtual Documentary Night, in honor of National Voter Education Week, we are meeting to talk about the documentary, The Battle for Ranked Choice Voting. From Maine to New Mexico, citizens across America are clamoring for free and fair elections through ranked choice voting (RCV). Our story unfolds as voters organizing to enact the reform face fierce pushback from establishment politicians. The film looks at the historical rise, fall, and rebirth of RCV in the United States and abroad, and embed viewers in the front line of the battle raging over voters’ rights. Julie Mallozzi, Scotty Vercoe, Nika Elugardo, and Kyle Bailey will be joining us for a special guest Q&A! You can watch the film for free at the link below.
