I am excited to help pass voting reform in SC. However, while IRV is definitely better than plurality voting, it still favors two-party systems and is a victim of the spoiler effect. Would the movement be willing to consider supporting a different voting system instead? I’m personally a big fan of the STAR voting system used in Oregon for their primaries, which combines instant runoff voting with score voting to counteract the weaknesses that both systems have individually. (STAR = Score Then Automatic Runoff).


There are other options that could be discussed as well that don’t have the spoiler effect and would allow third-parties to be competitive. Which is important to me when discussing voting reform. But even if the movement isn’t willing to consider such options, I’d like to be involved and provide support. Any system is better than our current one.
